  • Special Education Teacher
    Full time position
    Salary:  $34,465 - $61,832 DOE
    Position open until filled

    • Provide special education instruction, assessment, and consultation to students with disabilities under state and federal regulations.
    • To share expertise with parents, community and colleagues.
    • To assist the differently-learning-student acquire skills which will contribute to their      development as mature, able, and responsible members of our society.         


    • A valid Oregon special education teaching certificate (e.g., Handicapped Learner Endorsement).
    • Ability to use research based instructional methods with children who have various      disabilities, and instruct staff in ways to help implement these methods within the school setting.
    • A valid Oregon driver’s license.

    • An ability to work cooperatively with ESD employees and staff of local school districts
    • An ability to handle high levels of stress and multi-tasking satisfactory and be congenial with clients, customers, staff at all times.
    • An ability and willingness to share job knowledge with others.
    • Able to use Microsoft software including Word, Excel*, and/or any software programs necessary to perform the duties of the position.


    • Schedule and maintain a flexible calendar to accommodate the needs of students, staff, and parents at multiple school sites.
    • Maintain effective communication with others to informing them of changes to routine and calendar.
    • Work as a team member in conducting assessments and evaluating children as part of the      IEP and pre-referral process.
    • Generate documents that inform others of the needs of children, and how best to educate them.
    • Act as a consultative resource to staff regarding the learning needs of children.
    • Implementing educational procedures.
    • Writes and generates effective IEP goals and documentation.
    • Schedules and assists in conducting IEP assessments and IEP meetings.
    • Maintain accurate IEP documentation and data reporting on all students served.
    • Assist in State compliance process.
    • Maintain and encourages others to build and maintain best-practices knowledge and skills in the areas of education.
    • Use supplied computer based data systems for writing IEPs, scoring assessments, and participating in email communications.

     Salary and Work Year

    • 185 day work year
    • placed on licensed schedule under an individual certified contract per ESD policies
    • insurance, tax sheltered spending account, travel, leave, and professional development benefits as enunciated in policy
    • Work may include attendance at evening meetings with some out-of-county travel
