Lake County ESD – helping schools help kids!

Message from Superintendent Jack Thompson

Lake County Education Service District welcomes the 2020-2021 school year even with the challenges of educating children during a COVID pandemic. The Lake County Education Service District assists students and school districts of Lake County by providing equitable, high quality, cost-effective and locally responsive educational services.  Our mission is to respond to the educational needs of Lakeview, Adel, Plush, Paisley and North Lake school districts.

The core services we provide are: special education services, school improvement services, technology support, business services, and administrative support services.

Lake County ESD is continuing its efforts to provide students and staff of Lake County with many other services including school a psychologist, library consulting, Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education, youth mentoring, state work sample development, and counseling.

We continue to focus on providing high-quality special education services in order to support our most vulnerable students.   We will continue our professional development support to Lake County school districts to assist them in meeting the educational challenges they face.  Mentoring for new teachers is an ongoing priority for Lake ESD.  We provide assistance to new teachers to help them be successful.

The Lake County ESD continues to identify grant opportunities to help our school districts address their needs.  In the past we were awarded a kindergarten readiness grant to support children in being prepared for kindergarten.  This summer kindergarten camps were planned to be held in Lakeview and North Lake, but were canceled due to COVID restrictions.  These camps were a collective effort between the ESD, Lakeview and North Lake school districts, and the Lake County Early Learning Hub. The ESD Early Learning Hub supports kindergarten readiness and kindergarten engagement activities.

The hard-working, dedicated and professional staff of the Lake County ESD is the key to our success.  Their student focused and service orientated work ethic is what makes Lake County ESD successful in supporting the districts of Lake County.  My goals as superintendent of the Lake County ESD are, to be responsive to the needs of the schools and students of Lake County, provide the highest quality services, and help all of our students be successful.

Jack Thompson

Health and Safety Updates

The Lake County ESD has tested all faucets for lead content.  The utility sink in the ladies bathroom is well below the allowable level of lead; however, the two hand washing sinks in the bathrooms have tested above the allowable level.  We are currently in the process of replacing the faucets and will re-test for lead in the water after installation is complete.
